We are at the one month mark. I know it might still be too early to guess, but I would love some opinions on what these cuties are:

ALPHA:

TOUGH STUFF (TS):

Alpha is on the right, Tough Stuff is on the left.

Right now I think both of them look like cockerals, but they are still young so don't freak out or anything. Post again when they are around 8 weeks and it should be a lot easier to give a definate or more sure anwser.

Another 4 weeks of waiting?! :) Thanks for the input. What signs are you seeing for Roos? I am all new to this so I am just curious what to be looking for....

You could try posting them at 6 weeks if you want and I know it sucks to have to wait. Trust me I am an impaatient person lol. EE roos get red in their shoulder area. Female have an overall pattern throughout their feathers. The reason I thought cockeral is because i saw a little red in their wings and shoulders. But like I said before they are still so young it could really go either way. Although I think they look like cockerals right now they could just be trying to trick me and really be pullets lol. But time will tell. Just keep busy and all the sudden the month will be over lol.

I forgot to say that I am seeing a lot of red in the combs for 4 weeks.especailly on alpha.

Both are very likely males- that's a lot of comb plus both are starting to show the darker red roo feathers coming out on the wing bow area.

Also- both have single combs. Not good prospects for a colored egg roo if you don't have colored egg hens. That's due to the tight linkage between pea comb and blue/green colored egg gene.

By "red" do you mean like an auburn/brown? The pictures are a little off color wise. Alpha's front feathers are a beigey blonde and the back wing feathers are a slate blue, with splotches of beige and cedar brown (what is looking red in the shots) It definitely has a "reddish/orange/brown" look to it, but is certainly not red. Just trying to clarify. Luckily, I have a home for one roo on the ready. Not sure about TWO!!!

Hm, it's not so much the exact color of red as the fact that it is splotchy, meaning it just shows up in patches, one of which is the shoulders. I will say that TS's comb is not as pronounced, so that's a good sign. I do agree that waiting until 6-8 weeks will give us a much better idea.
