I know EE’s don’t breed true. So what happens when you do breed an EE roo w/ EE hen? My 9 week old EE “pullet” is looking very roo-ish. He is such a sweetheart so I’m thinking about keeping him around for a bit until I can get an Ameraucana roo. Has anyone experimented? I’m curious if the chicks will retain the beard/muffs and what happens with the egg color. If there’s a thread on this, I must’ve missed it.

That looks like a pullet to me. At 9 weeks there should be more color coming in and that comb should be bigger and redder from what I see in the pic. Here’s an example of a 9 week old EE cockerel. I’m not saying yours would be this exact color but you get the idea. If your bird is a cockerel, you should see significant changes in it within a couple of weeks.

You think so?? I agree on the comb for sure but I feel like there is a lot of orange in the wings and some saddle feathers as well. Also, the black “lacing” is very irregular. I’m happy to be wrong, but the feathers are telling me roo! Of course, it’s not over til they crow or lay an egg. :)
PS: your EE is gorgeous!

Thanks. That’s the same bird that’s in my avatar. I’m going to breed him with my white leghorns and Ameraucanas as soon as one of my other hens go broody. I’ve got plenty of EEs so I wasn’t planning on hatching anything from them.

It’s still an EE, but some people consider an EE only what the hatchery tell them it is. I consider an EE any bird that is of not a pure breed like legbar, Isbar or Americauna that still lays blue or green eggs.

I think your "pullet" is a pullet. By now that comb would be bigger and redder. True feathering doesn't come in until later. You can't go by feathers at this age. @sealer39 have you had an EE hen go broody?
