Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek Spiders All in the Coop!!!! Help!!

I'm having a terrible time with spiders, including Black Widows, in my coops. Their webs are above chicken level and they come out once the birds are asleep. Is there anything I can spray that will kill even Black Widow spiders but will not harm my birds?

If your just looking for a spray you can make yourself. Try anything with alot of alcohol in it. It will only kill on contact and shouldn't hurt your birds. Im not used to killing predators I'll think of something else. The spray would only work mechanically. It wouldn't kill what isn't sprayed. Vinegar would probably kill them to but wouldn't stop new ones from moving in. Make sure to clear the egg sacks, looks like mini cotton balls.

There is a natural bug spray called Orange guard. You can get it at health food stores like Whole foods, and I think Ace hardware even carries it now. Might try that. Just make sure the birds are out of the coop while you spray. Once it dries all is well. smells great too hehe.

I hate spiders too, but they do eat the bugs. so asl ong as there are no poisionous ones, I just leave them be. Good luck!

Hi Becky, don't ya just love Louisiana, welcome to the jungle lol.
I've tired using DE & a hand crank duster before, but they always come back.

I was always fussing about the Dirt dobbers nests & knocking them down last spring.Then hubby told me to just leave them be cause they eat spiders.So this yr. there're not as bad but what farmgirl2477 said is true, spiders trap alot of bugs & skeeters too.
I haven't seen any Black widows around just lots of Wolf spiders.
Good luck.. reminds me I need to wash the coops out again.

Thanks! Normally I leave spiders, too, I just never go out at night. lol. But I have never seen Black Widows like we have here. They are huge! And I saw a huge one in one of the coops. But they are getting out of hand like I've never seen before. Now I find out that the Brown Recluse is in this area, too. I've got to do something, I just don't want to put something out there that might hurt the birds. And in the heat and humidity we're having I can't just take everything out of the coop, including all bedding, and spray with Raid or something. And this old playhouse has the double walls with plywood on the outside and paneling on the inside that has warped from the high humidity leaving lots of little gaps for them to run back into. So I have to use something with a residule effect, to kill them when they come back out. Grrrrr.
