Hermit Crabs- Mean mothers... maybe someone has some ideas?

So as long as they free-range (which is a giant fenced area- with trees, bushes, multiple feeding stations, etc) then the hermit crabs stay at bay. It is when they are confined (to anyone who will look this up later).

Main is an obese female (Hazel) who eats the crabs! the rest wont touch them.

Hubby is coming in from the sea- they all made a dash when I was trying to determine the hermit crab population around feet when they were napping/meh

Luna and Nova: splash americuana, Scrappy and Smudge: 'Lisa Steeles blue, Willow and Hazel: Cream legbars. So far no toes lost!
Maybe you need to pen the youngsters in with Hazel for a bit. They may well learn her hunting habits!

Could you use feeders like these instead? You buy the port holes then attach them to any bucket. I use 5 gallon food grade white buckets like the ones shown because they are more rat proof but you can use any bucket. I hang them at head level so they are well off the ground and I find that there is little feed scattered on the ground (these deeper ports work best). They hold alot if you use a big bucket so no daily task for feeding if you choose. They also come with covers for the port holes that you can cap at night if critters are a real problem but I don’t bother anymore because hanging them seems to be enough for where I live. Since you can’t get anything mailed I guess you’d have to wait till you’re State side to get them.
