Okay. So, I'm on my first hatch in an LG. We have one out, and one pipping, they're due today.. But wait.. They're AWFULLY close to that heating element, which has burned me before, and HURTS. I'm hatching in cartons.. And the chick is on top of eggs.. And the LG is kind of small..

So, um, do chicks ever get burned by the heating element? Is there any way I can prevent it? What should I do? I never thought of it until this morning, when she hatched.. Eeeergh!

Well they're hatching now.. Can I do anything about it now? Should I scoop little chick out and hope it doesn't ruin humidity?

This is frustrating and scary!

it may touch it but wont again (at least I dont think so, leave the bator closed for now unless you see it burning itself regularly.

I use an LG, I pull the chicks out about as soon as they hatch and get them under a 250 watt red heat lamp. Havn't lost any yet this year doing that. Only losses I've suffered were culling for bad feet

PS, with chicks hatching, the humidity stays pretty constant in my 'bator

It's inching closer and closer.. I know how much damage that thing can do. Any other advice? If it gets closer again, I'm pulling her. The last thing I need is burning chicks.

I did it. I opened the top window that she was closest too and grabbed and shut as quickly as possible. Humidity was a bit high, so it all evened out. She's now screeching upstairs under a red light. Lesson learned.

That's what makes hatching so much fun
