EE's- Rooster or Hen?

I was really leaning towards the first one being a rooster, but I was holding out hope for the second one. Is it possible for hens to still have a small amount of red in their feathers at all?
Sorry but the second one is a rooster. Here's a pic of a similar EE rooster when he was young, about the same age as yours..

a few weeks later..

6 months or so..

Yours are too young to see saddle feathers yet, but you have a big red comb and red in the wing.. but they will probably be pretty boys!

I am not going by color as my friend has one thats has the roo red in the wings but is a hen, I'm going on comb size and color by age. their combs are too big and to much color for 9 weeks old

they both appear to be cockerels but i would wait and re post when they turn say 17 weeks. you might be able to tell gender before then but by this time ((17 weeks) the formation of the long slender pointed cockerel hackles and saddles should be visible by this time or they may start crowing. when in doubt always hold off until at least 20 weeks of age.

Both cockerels. They're too young to show pointed saddle/hackle feathers, those will be emerging in the next few weeks. And yes, it's possible for a pullet to have red on her -- but she'd have it elsewhere, too. These two with their little patch of red on the wing bow are absolutely masculine. And yes, those combs are also much more developed than a 9-week pullet would have.

Ok, thank you everyone for your insight. I suppose I'll wait until they are older and there are more obvious signs before we try to find them a new home... which makes me so sad.

I agree, both cockerels. The size of the comb for the age, if they were pullets they'd be this size and color at 18ish weeks, not 9.
Pullets can have red on them, but not in this pattern. As the pics above show, this red on the wing will grow as they age, makes for quite a showy bird. Red color in pullets will be evenly distributed over the body and usually breast. Sorry.

Just as an update, one for certain is a rooster since they started crowing this morning! I'm 100% sure the other will start very soon. I nearly had a panic attack when I heard this strange noise and my dog ran up to the back door clawing to get in.

Sure is loud and scary to hear for the first time!
