Last weekend, my 11-month old Red Star, PeeWee, started limping pretty badly. I did some online research (including BYC, of course) and thought it might be bumblefoot. To make a long story short, I wound up taking her to the vet on Monday (my first trip to the vet, ever!). The vet prescribed isolation, antibiotics, an anti-inflammatory, and a daily foot soak. She laid a normal egg on the floor of the examining room.

The next day, no problems. One egg, normal poo. The following day, by the time I woke up, she had laid a shell-less egg and a normal egg. And there were two poos on the toweling under her that were surrounded by what looked like a salmon-colored liquid soaked into the towel. I called the vet and she asked me to bring PeeWee in again. I didn't have the money for blood-work and fecal tests, so the vet switched her to a different antibiotic, de-wormed her with some liquid (I have the names of all these drugs written down), and gave her a shot of vitamin D to help with the absorption of the liquid calcium that I'm giving her once a day now. The vet said she was treating for parasites and a possible infection in the reproductive system. Next day, no problems; one egg, normal poo.

This morning, I came downstairs to find the towels soaked in a couple places with paler orange liquid. But the poos seem normal.

I'm swinging wildly between optimism and certainty that Pee Wee isn't going to make it. I can't afford to take her back to the vet--and besides, now I'm concerned that I started this whole chain of events by taking her to the vet in the first place for what might have been just a sprained leg! Can anybody give me any insights into what could be causing the orange liquid discharge? She is eating and drinking and is not lethargic.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Cindy

What color is/are the drugs you are giving her? It could be a side effect from them (drugs). Could also be a broken egg yolk - was it that color orange? Do you have any pictures?

How is she doing now? Did the vet diagnose Bumblefoot (was there a black hard area on the sole of the foot?)?

Sorry, I am not much help, but perhaps someone with more knowledge will jump in with an answer or two.
