Opened this extremely light egg, no white just yolk , which was hard and red, what can cause this and would it have been safe to eat ? I didnt but worried about the rest.

No I'm afraid I don't know that, this was shop bought farm eggs xInteresting. I definitely wouldn't eat it. I only watched with no sound on, so maybe some questions were addressed. Do you know which chicken laid it? How old is the chicken? Might just be a blip.

I just thought an old egg would be more disgusting than that? But, I have a small flock and most eggs are gathered the day they are laid.It's an old egg. I've seen this happen before with eggs I failed to find and sat under the hay for a while. The white of the egg evaporates and leaves the yolk. It gets a bit hard and when you crack it looks like this.
Likely it got picked up or found after a few weeks and someone thought it was new.
It depends, sometimes they get like this and other times they just rot and become a goopy disgusting messI just thought an old egg would be more disgusting than that? But, I have a small flock and most eggs are gathered the day they are laid.![]()
