Hi, I’m new to chickens and have what I think is an egg bound hen for the first time. Timeline:
Thursday afternoon/evening - totally fine, in her favorite nest at her normal time.
Friday - droopy comb, lethargic, not interested in her favorite treats. Checked for bugs - she had a few crawling on her so I treated her and my other hen. Felt her belly and could feel a LARGE hard egg-shape in her belly. Soaked her twice that night and put Vaseline on her bum. Gave her a heat lamp (60s in Texas overnight) which she seemed to like. Gave nutridrench. Eating and drinking some.
Saturday - purple, droopy comb but more energy and eating and drinking better. Gave nutridrench again and soaked her again. Could still feel the egg (I think)but belly was more squishy. She got a scrambled egg with shell that she ate some of.
Sunday - more lethargic, laying down mostly, still eating and drinking some. Gave her nutridrench and soaked her again.

Not sure what else to try… she’s always been a good layer. Occasionally she’d lay shell-less eggs and I’d up her calcium.

Did she lay internally?
Did the egg rupture inside her?

Vet isn’t an option for us.. but I don’t want to lose her

Did you see any lash eggs before she started the Saturday symptoms? What breed is she? Does she have any discharge? If so, what color? Pictures.

She’s a maran. I didn’t know what lash eggs were till Saturday, but I don’t think I’ve seen any before. Just some soft shelled eggs, especially when she was younger.
She’s having liquid “poops”. White or clear or just liquid brown poop down her bum. I don’t have any pictures but I can try to get some tonight.

These are experts on this site. They may want to see pictures of belly, poop. Please give updates on her condition.

Get some calcium into her now, calcium citrate with d 300-600 mg or a Tums broken in half and given orally. You might be feeling the gizzard or a lash egg. Has she passed no normal poop? Don’t soak her anymore, just make sure that she is warm enough, say on a warm towel. She may be egg bound with a soft egg which can be hard to pass, or a lash egg. Offer sips of water, and electrolytes or Gatorade might help.

Here’s photos of her. I don’t have any of her poop, but it’s very runny and light brown to white.

The photos don’t do justice to how swollen her abdomen is. And while most of it is pale, there’s a warm, red spot that makes me think infection? Her comb is going back and forth between super purple/black and a better color like it is in this picture.

Any advice is appreciated!

She may have water belly or swelling from internal laying/salpingitis. Many times hens with water belly are also suffering from reproductive infection, salpingitis, fatty liver disease, or cancer. I would try the calcium for now to see if she lays. Is she having any trouble breathing or labored breathing? I only try to drain a hen with ascites if she is having labored breathing.

She’s not having a hard time breathing. Not eating much, but drinks plenty. Is there a time frame in which the calcium will either help or not?
She’s normally an every day or two layer and today (Sunday) is day three of symptoms and day 4 of no egg.
