Hi, I’m new to chickens and have what I think is an egg bound hen for the first time. Timeline:
Thursday afternoon/evening - totally fine, in her favorite nest at her normal time.
Friday - droopy comb, lethargic, not interested in her favorite treats. Checked for bugs - she had a few crawling on her so I treated her and my other hen. Felt her belly and could feel a LARGE hard egg-shape in her belly. Soaked her twice that night and put Vaseline on her bum. Gave her a heat lamp (60s in Texas overnight) which she seemed to like. Gave nutridrench. Eating and drinking some.
Saturday - purple, droopy comb but more energy and eating and drinking better. Gave nutridrench again and soaked her again. Could still feel the egg (I think)but belly was more squishy. She got a scrambled egg with shell that she ate some of.
Sunday - more lethargic, laying down mostly, still eating and drinking some. Gave her nutridrench and soaked her again.
Not sure what else to try… she’s always been a good layer. Occasionally she’d lay shell-less eggs and I’d up her calcium.
Did she lay internally?
Did the egg rupture inside her?
Vet isn’t an option for us.. but I don’t want to lose her
