Egg bound hen… getting worse not better

How is your hen doing today?

Thanks for checking, sorry I’m just now seeing the message. She did about the same Monday and Tuesday and she had been doing. No improvement, but no worse.
Today (Wednesday) she’s significantly worse. She’s barely moving, and will only drink or eat a bite before laying back down and closing her eyes. Very slow, heavy breathing too.
I don’t know what else to try - been keeping her bum clean, giving calcium and Vit. D3, and lots of food and water available. I’m thinking she won’t last the rest of the day.

She passed away. I didn’t do an autopsy or anything but my best guess is an egg ruptured inside her.

I would guess from the symptoms you've described, and the up and down nature of her demeanor and health over the past month, and the swollen stomach, her comb color, that she died from salpingitis. You did all you could, as we all have done for our sick girls, but she probably had an incurable disease. I had a necropsy done on Missy, and it proved she had salpingitis. We are fortunate to have some real experts on BYC, who have seen some of the same symptoms. I'm sorry for your loss!
