Egg bound hen - am I handling this right?

Gads whatever you do don't force or break the egg. I curiously wanted to know if she was sitting with her wings lowered and her head lowered sort of drooping to the ground or if she were just holding the egg and otherwise looking fine. You will surely lose your hen. Are you feeding oyster shell? That helps maintain healthy eggs and process. When my cockatiels got egg bound I'd oil the vent lightly and put a reptile warming pad under them. The egg passed in a matter of hours without incident. Even the finches would posture with the head tucked into the body and feathers but the wings drooped to the ground so it was obvious they were in trouble and not feeling well. Let us know how this turns out. Sometimes the egg just isn't ready or the chicken isn't ready. I've seen a hen with a protruding egg just visible under the skin, not sticking out the vent, for hours and wondered what the heck. Nature nature, mother nature. A prayer doesn't hurt either. Best of luck and happy trails.
