I have a 2+ year old Buff Orpington hen. I thought I observed blood in her vent area, so caught her for a closer examination. Her lower abdomen is swollen and bright red. I did attempt to drain her--thick, blood tinged pus that doesn't want to drain. She is still alert and bright, but is just barely showing respiratory distress. I have a feeling that it is only a matter of time, so am prepared to dispatch her. No medications have been used. Can she be consumed or should I just dispose of her?

I would wait until you open her up to decide.
Not sure I'd eat a bird that might be diseased.
Take pics of her innards if you want further diagnosis from those who have been there done that.

I did get some great photos and was hoping for more comments/insight. She was absolutely filled with what I believe to be fat. The gizzard was completely surrounded. Very little food in it, crop was basically empty. The liver did not look right. No odors or anything else unusual (is finding that many large yolks normal?)
