One of our Araucana hens had what I think was an impacted egg. I have also seen it called a egg bound hen. It could have been a whole egg that broke or it could have just been a partially formed egg. Whatever it was, there seem to still be pieces of shell in her vent. We have brought her inside the laundry room and kept her warm. I put canola oil on the vent last night hoping to lubricate it but only topically. I gave her a warm bath which help pass a large piece of shell but I was wanting to know what I could do to help get that shell out of there. Should I just leave it alone? There are no signs of infection and we have put her on antibiotics as a preventive. She seems to be fine and is eating and drinking. PLEASE ADVISE!
Thanks in advance!
