She has been penguin waddling for a few days now with her tail down it seems and she has been eating but not too well. Her crop is usually empty by morning. She's usually a pretty consistent layer and a broody one at that but I don't think she's laid in a while, as she usually fiercely defends the eggs that are Hers tm. I haven't seen any yellow urates in her poop so i don't think? its internal laying or eyp? and she has been pooping although its mostly liquid and gets stuck to her vent feathers. Her cloaca has been pulsating and we've been giving her a handful of routine soaks. She's a hen at my work and I just got back on Sunday but she's been showing these signs apparently since Thursday while I was off. We starting soaking her as soon as I came in on Sunday suspecting her to be egg bound. She's a fairly young hen but a small breed. I think she's a phoenix and she's at least 3 years old. She's not overly lethargic although she isn't as active as she usually is. We've had a few egg bound hens before but we were fortunate enough that they usually laid shortly after their first bath. I'm going to try giving her a Tums tomorrow but I'm curious if there are any other ways to know for sure? I've seen mention that you can usually feel an egg in their abdomen? I am unsure how to check for that?
