Egg bound?? Impacted Crop?? Please help.

I've never had to deal with an eggbound hen either, but the warm bath sounds like a good idea. It might help her to relax enough to pass the egg (or pieces thereof). I think it is important for her to get as much as possible of the shell out, so it doesn't cut her insides. If it was a "shell-less" egg, then I assume it isn't as dangerous to her health. I guess that would have made it very difficult for her to pass, though.

Try the bath and see how she seems after that. If she's been struggling to lay for a while, she'll probably act very tired. Be careful to hold her head so she doesn't drown if she falls asleep while your bathing her (as chickens tend to do in the warm water).

Maybe just moving that "blob" of stuff brought her relief then.

My hen had this problem. I gave her a warm bath, probed her cloaca with a gloved, vasaline covered finger and flushed her with water usina a syringe. Eventually she passed a large, soft shell. She is now happily in her coop with her friends.

Good luck with your hen.
