Hi there :)

I have read quite a few threads on having egg bound hens, so know it is super common the first reproductive year, and feel we have a pretty good grasp on how to help her (warm baths, safe place, nutrient dense food, diatomaceous earth, and giving her a little extra vitamins. Monitoring her for signs of infection, etc...)

My question is, how long does it take for her to pass the eggs? It's been 24 hours, and we are encouraging her, by rubbing her belly and increasing her warm baths today. Her cloaca is closed, no sign of any egg emerging at this time, but LOTS of pooping, peeing, and farting... we did notice about 4 days ago, that she had quit laying.

She able to walk a little better than she could last night, but still just flops on her egg bound belly after a few steps. (She also got ahold of thin wire circle somewhere, that we have since removed from her lip, and that makes me worry about infection, but it didn't bother her to be eating or drinking with it. And, you can't even see where it was now, no signs of infection.

I'm still worried it could be parasites, or infection, which is why I'm wondering how long it should take so see the eggs emerge.

Thank you!

Yes! Thank you for responding. Do you know how soon we should see some progress?
Have you verified that she has an egg? If she has an egg it should pass in 1-72 hours depending on how you treat her.

If you gave fluids and calcium together, and let her soak in a warm tub, that would get stuff moving along very quickly.

Update: She is much SO better! Took about 48 hours :)
She's out boogying around the yard with her sister, and little pond again, the last few days. No further problems.
