I know she's just a chicken but it breaks my heart I didn't know how to help her Something I could've /should've done sooner ?!? I feel like a bad chicken owner

So sorry that you lost her. It may have been something that you could not fix. Chickens die of mystery illnesses all the time, and sometimes we can help, but most of the time, we cannot. Usually we don’t know what is wrong until we do a necropsy at home, or have a vet do one. Don’t beat yourself up because many vets know less about chickens than you do.

I went to the feed store yesterday and stocked up on some chicken supplies (antibiotics n such ) thinking maybe that would've helped better if I caught it sooner ? Maybe it wouldn't have who knows but I know I should have better supplies on hand than just electrolytes and vitamins . I was pretty bummed all day I told the lady at the feed store what happened and she was very nice in helping with my purchases .
They also had some nice six week old pullets out in the yard coops so I figured since I've lost two this summer I'd need to replace my girls so the boys have enough ladies . Came home with Julia ( cute little silver laced Wyandotte) Cupcake ( light brahma ) and Muffins lol ( Blue Wyandotte ) I have a giant free range area and these ladies have apparently been a tough sell I guess no one is really buying in town right now so it was kinda of a helpful purchase for them and they were well priced . Frankly it cheered me up a little and got me thinking about taking in a couple ladies from a local rescue that aren't wanted because they aren't laying . My husband knew I was bummed bought me pizza for dinner gave me a big hug and told me I could have as many chickens as I wanted ....I don't think he's realized what's he done !!! Lololol On a serious note though I have the space but I'm going chicken crazy lol My max number for new additions is like 5 lol plus a couple of my own I'd like to hatch . So for future hens I've decided I'll have a flock with a bit more of a purpose than just laying I'll do a bit of rescue too .
Interesting day a bunch of things happened I didn't expect and I'm moving on now and remembering the joy my ladies gave me for a time and spread that to others in need
