Egg bound/stuck

Yesterday I found my 2 yr. old RIR with an egg stuck 1/2 out of her, with part of her insides coming outside also stuck to the egg. I freaked out and took her to my vet who applied some lidocaine to the area then slighty cut the egg out and pushed her insides back in her...$52. later we went home with some antibiotics. Now this has happened again. I am going to lube her up with vaseline and hope to get the egg unstuck. Has this happened to anyone else, and will this keep happening? Is this called "egg-bound" I will post a picture later.

I don't understand what you're saying is going on now.

The egg thing, yes I've removed an egg from one of my own using the surgery.

But are you saying there is another egg that she is not able to pass or are you saying you see her insides outside?

If its not an egg issue don't use vaseline on her. Get some Preparation H and put a good coating of that on her. It should help shrink the tissues so they'll stay in place. Keep her in a pristine invironment until she's back to normal.

Also she needs to be kept in a dark place or cage to try to stop her egg laying at the moment...The more quiet the surroundings the better....

Yes, there is another egg coming 1/2 out stuck. I put her in a warm tub with vaseline, babyoil and was able to get the egg but her insides are still out.

My husband and I are thinking about "culling" her but don't know how to do it. We just don't know what to do and I'm crying over this!
Please help. Later tonight I will post a picture of her.

Get the Preparation H from the drugstore..put on plastic gloves and gently push her insides back in after you have unlodged the egg...put her in a small dog cage or a box where it is very dark and quiet with food and water...this may help...

It's called prolapse when her insides come out...I know I lost a hen to this ....

To add to what you've already been told, its a difficult decision to make. We've all been there at least once.

There is a chance that once she's had a chance to heal that she will go on to be OK. That's why Tuff said to keep her in a dark place, its to slow or stop her egg production.

If it is a dear pet, it won't hurt to try the suggested methods to stop laying and let her heal. You already did spend 50bucks on her.

I personally would have culled but my birds are for production. To cull I just cut the head off with a knife.
