Hi all,
I have a hen from TS who is now about 7 months old. She was egg bound a couple months ago for the first time, but I was able to help her push through it with warm water and massages. She passed 2 eggs, one with a very soft shell, and one without a shell.
This past Saturday (5 days ago) she started exhibiting symptoms of being egg bound again. I tried warm water again, but this time nothing worked until I gave her a calcium supplement via crushed tums. About an hour later, she passed a perfectly normal egg. I was still concerned, but kept my eye on her and she went back to normal. She exhibited no symptoms and has been her happy energetic self this past week. However, I noticed she didn't lay on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Today she woke up acting lethargic again with a lowered tail. I immediately gave her some Tums crushed in water, and she's been eating worms and cat food with water and lettuce. I also gave her a warm bath (that she almost fell asleep in) but now I'm getting concerned. It's been 3 hours since that bath and her last calcium supplement (she's had about 700 mg at this point so I'm stopping) and this morning she pooped a yellow/ green.
Has anyone had experience with these symptoms? She's currently lethargic and isolating herself in the coop. Her eyes look droopy, but she walks with her tail up when I give her worms. Do I give her space? Take her to the vet? Do you think it is that she's eggbound again? Or an illness.
Any and all advice is appreciated. Attached is a pic of her on a good day (no idea what breed but she is a big girl. If this helps) thank you!!!
