"Red Bird" was in obvious distress. She ignored food, alternately sat on the floor and then stood up panting and straining, and held her tail up high with all feathers fluffed and wings held away from her body. Suspecting she was egg bound, I took her inside the house and placed her in a sink of warm water for 20 minutes. I dryed her off, gently massaged her, and let her rest. Eventually she laid not one but two eggs, one with no shell and one large brown egg with a quarter sized spot of white shell on top of the usual brown shell. This white shell layer was stuck tight to the outside of the brown shell and had a light tan fleshy film over it. After laying the two eggs, she fell asleep exhausted. An hour later she awoke and slowly moved around a little, but she is still not back to her normal boisterous, loud self. How long does it normally take to recover from this sort of thing? I am worried she may have internal damage or something. She definitely is still not completely recovered yet. Also, what's with he multiple layers of stuff on the outside of the brown shell? I am new to raising chickens and am worried about my girl.

Is she new to laying? If so, hopefully this is simply the sort of thing that goes wrong when they are "learning to lay." Sometimes it takes them a month or so. I believe I'd keep her in her quiet place another day or two, at least, and see what happens next. Chickens get upset by any change so at least some of her behavior may just be this. And another bath would do no harm if she seems stressed; they often find them relaxing.
