Egg bound

Desperately looking for advice. I read several articles here on egg bound chickens and how to help her. She is definitely egg bound. So far I have tried soaking in Epsom salt bath. I have also tried lubricant and massaging her back side. She is really straining and pushing but she hasn't been able to pass it. I feel absolutely horrible and I really want to help her. Reality is what are her chances and how extensive should I be with trying to get it out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When a hen gets egg bound it’s said that you have around 48 hours before it gets real and she is a life threatening stage. Right now give her epson salt and calcium pills, calsium is what saved my egg bound hens life. Try giving her either the 400 or 600 mg ones and just put it in her mouth she will swallow it, you can cut it into smaller pieces to make it easier for her.
If the egg is whole you should NOT try and break it to get it out that can cause infections instead you can try and see if you can feel the egg in her and rub some oil in her vent
Make sure she is in a warm place so she only should focus on getting the egg out and nothing else also remember to dry her off when you give her a bath

Yeah, the calcium is the key right now. It makes the contractions stronger so they can pass the egg.

She has a good chance of making it. Most of my success stories were egg bound ones. Just get the calcium in her as soon as you can.

How on earth do you open the hens beak? I’m in the same position but no way she opens it.

You gently pull down on the wattles, or gently pry your finger nails between their beak on the sides then slip your fingers in. Here is a great thread listing folks methods for giving chickens medicine.

How on earth do you open the hens beak? I’m in the same position but no way she opens it.

great list the other person listed, my hen is stubborn so i pulled gently down on her beak while opening it up with the other finger and then I slipped my pill in her mouth, not far back just layed it on and she swallowed it
