One of my silkie hens is acting very strange.
It started yesterday when she was mot as active as she usually is, and when I picked her up her belly was very swolen. She is just comming out of a moly, so she hasn't laid for awhile, so i just thought that it was an egg so I let her be. Today, when my mom woke up, she was lying down in the run, but my mom just thought that she was sunning herself. But when we got home, she was in the same place, still lying down. I thought she was dead, in fact, until I picked her up. She looked up a litttle, but I think she is in shock. Her belly is even more swolen today than it was yesterday.
Right now, my mom is in the kitchen holding her while I look up how to help egg bound birds, even though I'm not sure if she really is egg bound.
What is it???
Can I do anything?

I'll look up the links, but for now the method is to set her in a warm bath for about 15 - 20 minnutes. Then massage her bum massaging in the direction of the vent. You might feel an egg... maybe on one side or another.
If you have some gloves and some mineral oil or vaseline, put a little on your finger and work your way into her vent to see if you can feel if there is an egg there. If so, then keep up with the massage. I'll send you the links in a minute. good luck.

Its too late, she passed.
One of my chicken breeder friends came over before she died and wasn't sure what it was. After reading about Ascites, I do think that that is what she had. I am bringing her to Uconn tomorrow to have an autopsy done on her (they do it for free).
Thanks for your help anyway.

so sorry.

reason I was sending you the info is cause I've got a sick one too and had been asking. big swollen bum and not moving much. My hopes are low.
