About three years ago my ex-step-father built us our egg boxes. Well three years later and I need to clean them out. Well they’re built into the wall of the coop and have a lip so spraying them out isn’t an option. Is there any ways to salvage the nesting boxes or do I need to just take them out and get new ones?

How are dirty are they and with what?
Post pics of nests, please?

I've never had a reason to use liquid to clean my nests, they just get dusty and I have them lined with vinyl on the bottom for broken eggs.

When I first got chickens and got the egg boxes I wasn’t really told how to keep them in good shape so I put hay in and pretty much left it at that with the occasional change of bedding. I had only a few chickens and thus only collected every week/other week and never needed to clean it. Well come spring last year and we decided to bump up the number of chickens from 3 to 30 (impulse for the most part) and that’s when everything started going haywire with the boxes (technically 5 months after when the new chickens started to lay) my routine of collecting once a week couldn’t keep up so for a month or so they were breaking eggs and cannibalising their eggs. I stepped up my game but didn’t clean them out and that’s where I made my hugest mistake with the boxes. Well fast forward 6 months and my new routine does the job but recently I decided to go on a trip and I forgot to mention to my daughter to pick up the eggs and so when I came back there was a week worth of eggs minus whatever the chickens broke and ate.the boxes are currently in a state of discord. I can’t take pictures right now but that should frame pretty well how dirty it got. Apparently they had knocked out the hay and with that all the dirt and egg goop was on the bare wood.

Tear 'em out and build new ones...and change your collection habits.
I did change my habits awhile ago but the boxes I have not.there are a couple things I have in mind for the new boxes but I wanted confirmation on whether it was in my best interest to replace them instead of revamp them.

Can't say if you could get them clean, egg mess it a bear to get off even my dishes let alone wooden nests. Pics might help.
