Egg broke inside young hen and it seems stuck

It finally came out! She passed it around midnight last night. I heard a squawk and some thumping so I decided to check on her and found the egg. I can see why it wasn't budging at all.

Poor girl, that must have been really hard to pass. Keep an eye on her, see how it goes. Hopefully she will perk up after getting rid of that. If her next egg is soft then I'd give her calcium again for a couple of days. The Caltrate +D is good as the vitamin D in it helps with absorption. See how her droppings are looking now and make sure she's eating and drinking. Hopefully all will be well now. Make sure you have oyster shell available all the time for calcium, needs can vary bird to bird and with seasons. Too many greens can interfere with calcium absorption also. Imbalances with Vitamin D and trace minerals can impact it also, so watch treats. May just be a glitch since she's a new layer, but those are things to consider.

Thank you for your help with this coach723. It was rough the past 3 days. I've been monitoring her bowel movements. She's had a few since passing the egg. They are harder then normal and dark. I'm assuming they are dark because of the blood. She did slow down on eating so I'm monitoring her crop and food intake to make sure everything gets moving at the pace it should be. She is 6 months old and is a new layer. I think either she had 2 eggs in her tract and the soft shelled one busted before it was laid or the smaller egg was inside the soft shell egg and it busted as she was laying it thus the shelled egg came out while the soft shelled egg stayed in. I do keep oyster shell available to the ladies.

I also don't treat as much as I used to. They get some fermented scratch grains maybe once a week and black fly soldier larve is the more regular treat, sometimes a random veggi/fruit that I known i won't eat before it goes bad. I do live in the Midwest so vitamin d could have been an issue. I do like to add rooster booster vitamins every so often to their feed. Maybe I should add it more regularly.
