I have a 14 mo hen who has laid intermittent soft shell eggs over the last several months. She has had a couple bouts of coccidiosis as well as pendulous crop. Today she had an egg break inside her. I have flushed her vent several times and she has had egg yolk flush out but no shell. I'm not sure if the shell is still in her vent I can't feel anything but she was outside with her flock and I didn't find the shell outside either.. my question is. I have Tylan 50 injectable, oxytetracycline powder, tylo-dox special mix powder, and denagard liquid what would be the best option for treating to prevent infection?

Choose a broad spectrum antibiotic and start her on it ASAP. The yolk will cause bacteria to start growing but flushing her oviduct wasn't the wisest move as it can shove bacteria farther up the tract. This is because the lower part nearest the cloaca also handles feces which usually has E.coli living in it. You only want that pathogen moving down and out, not farther in and up.

Give her a calcium tablet once a day for a few days to help her expel any remaining egg material. It will also boost her calcium blood levels and help her shell gland build proper egg shells so this won't keep happening.
