When candling shipped eggs that are on day 17 should I see what looks like an air sac on the pointed end of the egg as well? The eggs were shipped from Florida to ca. There is what appears to be a dark mass in the middle. It's been about a year since I incubated, I really do not ever recall seeing an air sac at the both ends of an egg before

I've seen that before. Quite often, actually. My questions to you would be:
1) can you see any movement from the chick? (Probably easier to see from the rounded end), and
2) do you see a moving bubble?

If you see movement from the chick, all is well. The clear part at the bottom is where the yolk sac would be located, if I'm understanding you.

If you see a moving bubble, it's a rotten egg.

Hope this helps.
