I know I am supposed to wait to candle the chicken eggs.. we are on day 4... I candled a few today, did not see much. The air pocket (if that is what is was) seemed to move when I moved the egg, it was not at the end of the egg more on the top. ??
These eggs were shipped to me from McMurray.. 4 were cracked/broken when they arrived. I am kind of having a bad feeling about these eggs.
Any thoughts or advice would be helpful
Thanks

i felt bad a t day four and aksed this too. they said waIT TILL DAY ATLEAST DAY 8 . I ID EGGS ARE DEVELOPING . THEY LOOKED LIKE THEY ARENT NAT DAY 4 B UT THATS OK. wAIT TILLA T LEAST DAY TEN THOUGH BEACAUSE YOU REALY DONT NEED TO OPEN UP THE BATOR FOR MUCH BEFORE THEN EXSPECIALY FOR CANDLING. JUST POUT THEM IN SET THE TEMP AND WAIT TILL DAY FIVE TO CANDLE. THATS IT. ITS NORMAL NOT TO SE MUCH AT DAY 4.

now what does that mean. is that good or bad i've never experience this ?

It means that the air cell has been detached and it can move around in the egg. It's not a very good thing. I've heard that a lot of eggs have hatched with detached air cells though. Just don't mess with them very much.

Thanks,
I will wait to candle. (Although today is day 5)
I will wait until Monday which will be day 7
Do you think the detached air cell is from being shipped and that 4 were cracked/broken? Something traumatic must have happened to the box which made the air sac detach??
UGH!!
I hope they are ok. Temp has been steaady at 99.6-99.7 humidity has fluctuated a bit between 30% and 50% but now it has been a constant 40-42%
Thanks for all your help
Wish us luck!!!

I had eggs where it looked like the water was moving around in them and they were fine. I also had eggs that I thought they were infertile and they also turned out fine. I even had eggs that were almost frozen when they arrived and they still worked out. Mother nature may be stronger then you think. BTW forget those candlers they sell, they are all weak. I've got myself a 120 lumen LED flash light from Walmart in the camping section. Way brighter! I start candling at day 4 for the first time just to get an idea how things are and mainly looking for blood vessels. At that time maybe half of the fertile ones look fertile. At day 7 the rest will show signs of fertility. That is the day I sort them in the incubator. The ones that are good for sure, maybe, and no sign (I give them a last chance). Now I wait another week. Most of the maybe eggs usually look right at this point. Another look at the ones of no sign usually reveals nothing new, so they are off to the trash. At that point I will trow out all eggs that do not look good. That includes quitters etc. I'm doing this because those eggs usually are dead inside and you start to incubate bacteria, which can make the dead egg explode in your incubator. Trust me you don't want an egg to blow up on you. It's a stinky mess and cleaning the incubator is no fun at all.
