what are everyone best egg tips? we live in utah and it is very cold so if we don't collect the eggs soon after they are layed they freeze and sometimes crack. how do we stop this? can we still eat the eggs that have been frozen? i have also heard it is bad to wash eggs but there is almost always poop on the eggs. does anyone have any tips regarding eggs, cleaning, eating, and even getting chickens to lay in the nesting box?

Take a good look at your nests, the run and bedding in the coop. The drier they are, the cleaner the eggs, unless you have something sleeping in the nests. If so, block the nests in the late afternoon for a few days to break that habit.

There is a difference in poopy eggs - some eggs might have a small clump of poop, attached to a part of the egg. If so, wipe or knock it off and don't worry. You can give eggs a rinse off just before using if you want.

Some eggs are rolled in poop. If so, do wash those eggs when you bring them in, keep them in the fridge, mark with a pencil and use in baking, or well cooked eggs.

Dirty eggs often come from set up with less than perfect drainage, and there is a lot of mud. Deep bedding can help with that.
