egg carton and lockdown question

I think if they're in a turner where the egg is upright, they hatch better in the carton in the same position.

My first hatch, I had them in a turner, and then I laid them on their side for hatch. I had a pretty low hatch rate. This time they were in the turner, and went into egg cartons, and they're doing great. I'm over 70% already, and they're not "due" until this morning.

They're having NO trouble getting out.

I think if you incubate on the side, hatch on the side, if you incubate upright, hatch upright.

I'm new to this, but I just used a bendable drinking straw and poured hot water through the straw, using a measuring cup with a spout to refill the sponges and fluid reservoir. A couple of my elementary teacher friends are waiting to see how my first hach turns out to see if they are going to try it with their classes. Hope all goes well with yours!

For Lock down put a long bowl/tray under the vent area and under the metal mesh incase your humidity doesnt come up to where you need it so then you can add water to it to raise your humidity by increasing water surface space. You will want your humidity around 60 before they start hatching and it will rise and fall after they start hatching from 65-75, this fixed my dry membrane issue. P.S. Since you are a teacher and doing this in your class room you might consider taping the lid shut with 8 small pieces of masking tape just to keep the kids from curiously opening the bator during lockdown, mine always try after they start peeping b/c they think they want out. The tape at least slows them down to where I realize they are getting into it. Good Luck let us know how it goes

Hi there-I just set some eggs Sunday and by mistake filled both water troughs in my havo-bator-should I drain one of them until lockdown? I don't have anything to check the humidity with-any suggestions?
