egg carton hatching

I am just finishing my first hatch. I've had 12 out of the remaing 16 (of 24 original) hatch out.
They were in egg cartons the entire time since the Brinsea has an external autoturner that turns the whole incubator.

I asked on the board about taking them out and lying them down for hatch for the same reasons, more room in the incubator, not fighting gravity, etc.
No one advised me about it so I left them in.

They all did fine.
All the chicks got out of the eggs themselves. Some sat in the egg for awhile and had to work to get their feet up on the edge but they all did it eventually.

They were shipped eggs.
I was afraid if I laid them down I would both screw up the chick's position and run the risk of drowning.
All healthy.
so that was my experience and it's what I will do again.
Good luck.

Just remember every time you open the bator you are letting out the humidity. I have a large bator that holds 600 eggs. I've never done that many DH would kill me. LOL but I did do 101 eggs, after candling them I ended up with 88. I use egg cartons and the total I ended up with was 67 chicks. They all got out ok after they rested. After day 18 I don't open that bator for nothing.

So I would say no.

Are you giving the rest that didn't hatch a couple more days?

the reason they sat in the egg for awhile was because they are still absorbing the yolk..

every struggle they make is a learning and developement experience..

when you are watching them hatch, keep that in mind ..

and remember, they do not need your help...

and whoever thought up the "fighting gravity" thing,,,,,,,how rediculous, is as politel as I can be.

we all fight gravity every day.. from birth to the grave.. You could not walk very well without gravity... You lean forward and start to fall and then you stick your foot out and catch yourself,,over and over..
