Our hens are finally laying at a nice rate! We do not sell them but do give some away to family. I have been just storing them in cardboard eggs cartons. Reusing what we have or gathering from others!

I recently read that the cardboard cartons should never be reused because of cross contamination. I don’t wash the eggs when I gather them but do put them in the fridge. Then wash before using.

Should I be using plastic reusable cartons that can be washed regularly?

Thanks for helping :)

I don't like to wash eggs if I can avoid it, so I spend more time making sure the nesting boxes are very clean and the chickens have a large run so the eggs don't get soiled in the first place. I know this doesn't eliminate the risk of salmonella entirely, but it's worked well for me.
