Egg color changing right before my eyes

Okay then it has brown genes and strong blue genes. It's green when it's cold, it's blue when it's warm.

When you break an egg to eat it, peel the membrane off the inside of the shell and you will see the blue egg base color.

Brown coatings can vary from egg to egg, from chicken to chicken....sometimes that brown coating will wash right off or can be scratched. The brown coating can also fade in intensity as the hen get farther into her egg cycle.

Will be interesting to see what your girl does as she matures. ould be cool to do a time lapse video of an egg right out of fridge warming in the air...but not being touched.

Ooooooh good idea. Imma do that. Could I use my iPhone? Like just set it up and then speed up the video on some video editing app

Yeah.,..now that I have iOS 8 I can't upload pics.....taking a time lapse this weekend of the egg changing color

Fascinating video! Good job.

You probably have an Easter Egger rather than a pure breed Ameraucana, she was probably from a cross between and Ameraucana and brown egg layer...thus the green eggs.

Brown egg coating over blue egg makes green....sometimes the coating doesn't 'stick' well and can even be washed off.

It's odd that it seems to turn color then turn back, could have something to do with the condensation formed by taking an egg out of the cold fridge into a warm humid air.

Can also take new layers a few weeks to iron out the kinks in the newly functional egg making apparatus, you may see more changes over the next month or so.
My americauna just did the same thing. First egg from my hens, I did not refrigerate mi e and it’s doing the same thing when you hold it. I didn’t wash it, I did wash my hands and it still did it. Strange, I’ve never seen anything like it:)

I’ve got an Olive Egger who layed a blue egg this morning and when I took it inside it started turning green in my hands, after putting it in the egg basket it turned blue again. So I guess it’d be caused by the same thing. Isn‘t that interesting though!!
