Texas-Just a little bit South of Weird
I have Welsummers from 2 different breeders. I am amazed at the variety of coloring produced by the same breed-although each bird is pretty consistent in the coloring she produces. One of my hens is very "artistic". My Speckled Sussex and Cuckoo Marans eggs were so consistently colored it was hard to tell them apart. These colors are all over the board! Anyone else got some pics of same-breed eggs with color variations? (I know EE do, and would love to see the colors there!)

This is pretty typical with Marans; breeders will choose to hatch chicks from the darkest eggs, to continue that trait. Older hens, and hens late in their laying cycle, will have less pigment on the shells too.
Nice eggs!

These eggs are all from my Welsummers. And I agree.. I love these eggs! And really enjoy the Welsummer breed.

Welsummer color will fade over the season like Marans do....
...actually this can affect any breed.
My EE and OE green layers can fade to the underlying blue.
My 2 SLW lay slightly different shades.
The 2 Lt. Brahma I had laid slightly different shades too.

My California whites lay slightly different shades as well. 2 lay very white eggs, while the third lays a cream colored egg. I have younger chicks, Easter Eggers, svarthonas, and a Wyandotte, and I’m excited to see more of a variety soon, hopefully in the summer!
