We have two rehomed hens that we got about 2 1/2 weeks ago. One began laying last week for us and was giving us an egg every day or so (we saw her in the box each time) The eggs were all the same shade of brown, but yesterday's egg was very light in color. We didn't see either of them in the nesting box yesterday and the egg was laid very early, I found it at 7:30 am. Could it be from the other hen that hadn't laid yet or could it just be a color difference? All the eggs from Georgie have been a deep brown and the one random egg yesterday was very very light in color. I am really hoping Queenie is getting started laying.

Egg color can change during the course of a laying cycle, but it is generally gradual process. I'm guessing that 'Queenie' is starting to lay.

2x Sourland, the change of color is normally gradual, I got 7 brown egg layers, they are a year old and lately some of them are laying very light colored eggs some almost white but didn't happened overnight. Hopefully your young pullet did layed her first one
