New to the game and have been told all sorts of things about chickens by family, friends and complete strangers walking down the road and see my coop. One of the ones I’ve heard is that the chickens ear helps determine egg color. Got this beautiful sapphire at the local country store and am hoping for some blue eggs from my Easter Eggers but if she laid blue that’d be sweet! Anybody ever hear this? Hopefully they lay soon. They’ve been free loading for just over 19 weeks.

Sapphires I think lay brown. I know that 'painting' isn't really an indicator. She had reddish behind it so I would go off the actual skin color, not the opal color

Blue earlobes mean nothing, except you have a cool chicken. EEs and other blue laying breeds have any earlobe color really, normally white. Red earlobes: brown eggs. White earlobes: white eggs. Any color earlobe: can mean blue, green, olive, pink, all the not typically seen egg colors.

Edit: and you go off the flesh color, not the painting. :)

I believe she will lay brown eggs. EE usually give green eggs. Heres what I've been getting from one of my EEs.

Thanks! Just anxiously awaiting that first egg. It’ll probably happen when we’re out of town this weekend. 🤦🏻‍♂️
Mine are now 20 weeks and still nothing 😭
The only one who's laid is my EE and she started at 17 weeks. I mean, they're obviously ready, theyve been this red for weeks. Not sure if the heat is what's causing them to not lay yet.

Yeah I’m not sure if it’s the heat or not. We live in NW Washington so it hasn’t been that hot. Only highs in the 70s. We have 2 RIR 1 EE and 1 sapphire that are older and then three other EE’s that are a few weeks younger than the older batch.

Those are pretty! I hope we get a few of those. We have 4 EE’s total but 3 are younger than the other one. So they’re still a ways out from giving us some eggs. We just put them together a few days ago.

Oh gosh, we've been over 100 for weeks. We hit 116 last week. Miserable doesnt even begin to explain it
