Egg color

My hens have been laying dark brown eggs and today we got one light colored egg. I am new at this and wondered what caused this?

If the shell's abnormally thin, then illness or an injury like a bone injury sucking up her calcium reserves.

Otherwise, it's pigmentation glands that produce shell coloring. With wild birds, it causes such species specific traits like spots, streaks, marbling, solid color, etc, as well; the glands can run out of pigment too. She may just be running low on pigment and in that case might be reaching the end of her seasonal laying period.
