Egg color?

I have limited experience with any eggs let alone brown eggs (have 2 brown egg layers) and can say that they shades of brown can be different. I've even had lighter shades on the same egg. Asked here and was told it is fine. Ate the eggs and I'm still around :)

Different breeds can lay different shades of brown...and the same hen can lay different shades form day to day sometimes or throughout her cycle(cycle is generally spring to fall).

What breeds and ages of hens do you have?

Yes, 8 of my brown egg layers all lay different shades of brown, and I can tell which is which by the shade and size (some hens are older, so lay bigger eggs). The EE lays a blue/green colored egg which doesn't change much in shade. The different shades look quite pretty in the egg carton!

I have one Speckled Sussix that is 2 and 2 Bared rocks that are 3. 4 8 wk old rocks and 4 giant Blacks also 8 was old.
Well 8 week olds don't lay eggs...so they're out.

If it was just one time that you got a darker egg, it was probably just a spray booth anomaly...that can happen.
