I was going through all the discussions on the board and am trying to figure out how to get certain egg colors from purebred crosses. This isn't a thread for Easter Eggers, although I'm sure 90% of the crosses here become Easter Eggers. I'm hoping this can be a thread with "recipes" for egg color. Please post photos of your crosses and their eggs too.
I had a few questions too:
How do I know whether to use the male or the female of a particular breed? For example, if I want to get an Olive Egger, do I use a Marans ROOSTER over an Ameraucana HEN? Will I get the same color egg results if I paired them opposite?
Also, if I bred an F1 from one pen with an F1 from the other pen will the offspring lay the same color eggs?
What would be a good crossing(or series of crossings) to make the following colors:
MINT (will a tinted x blue cross create this?)
LIGHT BLUE
OLIVE
DARK OLIVE
GRAY
My ultimate goal is to create a cross that breeds true to their egg color and feathering. For example:
Buff Ameraucana x Buff Orpington = Buff green egg layer
Buff F1 Green egg x Buff Minorca = Buff mint egg layer
Black Ameraucana x Black Minorca = Black light blue egg layer
Lavender Ameraucana x Lavender Marans = Lavender olive egg layer
F1 Lavender Olive Egg x Lavender Marans = Lavender dark olive egg layer
