Do silkies typically lay eggs of a certain color? I'm a first time silkie owner and my hens just started laying--both layed eggs that are a very very light green color. Just wondering if that's expected/what other colors can be expected from silkies?

Thanks!

Pure silkies are supposed to lay a small creamy white egg.

Hmm, mine are supposed to be silkies but both were called "partridge" according to the breeder. I'd never seen silkies with that color pattern, you think they're mixed with something? I mean it doesn't REALLY matter, but I'm just curious.

Partridge is just a color, and does exist within silkies http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Silkies/SilkPartrH.JPEG

Since
your birds are laying green eggs then they aren't pure silkies, but could be considered Silkied Easter Eggers, (Easter Eggers are mutt fowl that carry the blue egg gene), or a project bird. Somewhere along the line your birds were crossed with such, and thus wouldn't be considered pure silkie, even if they appear to be so. But, still a Silkie feathered Easter Egger is pretty cool!

Here is a breeder that is working on blue egg laying silkies http://reocities.com/Petsburgh/6624/
