Ive had my 2 rescued Brahmas over a month now and they are my life. Absolutely gorgeous girls. The original owner told me they were about a year/18mths old and had laid but sporadically. Four days ago I found one egg then this morning a second. Different shell shades and different sides of the roost so I assume one from each bird?

Anyway, 1st picture shows the 1st egg had the uc coming from the base of the egg and was still attached. The second did not, a seemingly perfect egg. When I cracked them this morning for our first breakfast from our girls, (2nd pic) the first egg had a very large and firm uc inside and the second egg, a slightly smaller and more fluid uc mass.

We decided not to eat, refrigerated instead. Never eaten Brahma eggs before. Is this possibly normal or is there something wrong. Can anyone advise please?

Did you happen to save those.
The one I have circled, did you feel of it, was that solid or if you still have it can you cut it open if possible?
These were "rescues" - like from the humane society or.....?
What are you feeding them?
Where are you located (state/country) - what is your weather like?

You mention that the 1st egg had the "uc" coming from the base of the egg - I am going to take a guess and assume you mean umbilical cord? What you are seeing on that is I believe is probably a "tail" that was attached to the egg and it just hardened on there, there is no umbilical cord that would be attached to the outside of an egg.
The inner parts of the egg are shown in the image below - the "white stringy stuff" is called the Chalaza, this helps "attach" the yolk to the inside of the egg.

And no, the inside of the egg(s) are not "normal". It has nothing to do with the breed of the chicken. It's very hard to know, but that one "mass" I have circled looks similar to a lash egg that may have been included into the egg as it was laid. If you get another one, if you can separate that, cut it open so we can see the inside that would be good.

There's a picture of an egg with a "tail" in link

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I still had it to hand and have dissected and taken a photo for you. It felt very firm to the touch but inside it is like cooked scrambled egg of (all things).
These were well looked after hens I believe. From a private home who no longer wanted them and 'wanted rid' fast. Owner was not great with English and it was a case of take them on or forever worry that something untoward had happened to them. He almost threw them at me in a box, not wanting anything for them. They seem fit and healthy and very friendly.
They do not appear to walk like penguins or have swollen tums.
I feed them on layers pellets with some mixed corn later in the afternoon as a treat. . Mixed grit/shells. Sometimes they get some water-soaked bread and sometimes they get a veg mix. They always have one of those soft stick treats and their water has a measured amount of Poultry Drink mixed in, fresh every day..
They sleep in a coupe overnight, have a small run they are contained in, in the event they are left during the day but most of the time they have the run of the garden.
I am in England, UK and the weather has been very cool but not freezing nor snowing in my little corner and is actually warming up again now. Gorgeous spring weather.
Hahaha, yes I thought umbilical cord because the picture of the firm 'chalaza' was what was on the outside of the egg in the first picture but which had dried. It lead to the bottom of the egg covering where the rest of it was inside the egg from the other side of the shell.
Just looked at your link. The soft shelled egg with tail is exactly what the first one looked like. The lash egg however didn't tick one box. These eggs had shells, albeit not strong. They were extra large not small and definitely did not have any unpleasant odour to them.
We are now just waiting for the next egg(s) with our fingers crossed in the hope that the anomalies are just a result of change in food, home and ownership and also the stress of the journey home.
I just hope I am not the problem and I am not doing anything wrong.

Oh boy! That is a lash egg! I’m so sorry! :hugs
Please, no apologies. I am looking for advice so the truth has to be told. I just cannot see it as a lash on reading the description posted by Wyorp. Definitely the tailed egg though. Did you see the first picture of the whole egg? Aside of the huge chalaza, the egg looked so tasty. Couldn't eat it though :( At least it appears that it might have been stress related for the change they have both been through, bless their hearts.
