Egg confusion

Please, no apologies. I am looking for advice so the truth has to be told. I just cannot see it as a lash on reading the description posted by Wyorp. Definitely the tailed egg though. Did you see the first picture of the whole egg? Aside of the huge chalaza, the egg looked so tasty. Couldn't eat it though :( At least it appears that it might have been stress related for the change they have both been through, bless their hearts.

Don’t not rule out infection. Lash eggs could be Salpingitis. The dissection photos do look more like a lash egg than prior. In which case might need abx. :)

Thank you all for your advice and links. All very helpful. I have my fingers crossed my hens are just settling in and that the next eggs will be 'normal'. I will surely let you know how it goes.
:thumbsup

Thank you Melky I am looking up my local chicken vet practice and also trying to find out from the previous owner if the hens were ever innoculated. I will get them checked out if the next eggs are not normal.

It felt very firm to the touch but inside it is like cooked scrambled egg of (all things).

Unfortunately, I do think it looks like a lash egg, especially since you cut it open, but it's possible it could be something else, possible it could be something else. A hen's reproductive system, to me, is complicated. Things can reverse, you can have an egg within an egg, whole eggs can also reverse and drop into the abdominal cavity, etc. I find it fascinating, but it's unfortunate for the hen over time.
That mass, whatever it is, was encapsulated inside a hard shell, which I'm cautious to say is promising. This tells me the shell gland is still functioning. Seeking vet care, if that's possible for you, is a good idea. Depending on the cause and if this is caught early, antibiotics may really help.

Here's some information about Salpingitis (Lash Egg):

The more I have read the more I agree, the girls need to be checked out. I appreciate all of your input and patience with me. I really am having to run with these hens from the very start. Thank you all so much.

Save any further eggs, after breaking them open and doing some dissection and pic taking, just put one egg content and shell in a tupperware(or something like that) for the vet to see. IF the vet is schooled in avian practice or is willing to learn.
I will do just that. Thank you. You are all so supportive and it is appreciated. I will be looking to visit a vet and get them both checked out, with or without the next eggs. Keep your fingers crossed for them ;)

I agree with the others, a lash egg. It may be a one time only or it may happen again. I have had a lash egg that looked similar to that and one that was the shape of an egg.

If you go to the vet, please let us know what you find out. All of us are here to learn from and help each other.
