Egg drop syndrome?

Has anyone had any experience with egg drop syndrome ?I never noticed a decline in eggs really. But I did notice that one chicken was consistently laying a soft egg. My husband culled her because no matter how much oyster shells or egg shells we gave she never laid a normal egg. He even found a very hard shelled spoiled egg inside her. Well now I'm after seeing another couple of soft shelled eggs. I just watched my RIR lay one. Kinda came out in a splash and the chickens went crazy to eat it. Then I saw one running with a slimy white soft shell in its beak. Any advice?

I'm sorry about your hen. Finding a hard shelled egg inside, I assume in the abdomen(?)/or Oviduct(?) sounds like Internal Laying. Do you happen to have photos of the necropsy/what you found?

What do you feed, including treats?
Do you provide oyster shell free choice?

There are many causes of soft-shelled eggs, sometimes dietary changes can correct the issue. A few other causes can be parasites (internal and external), certain respiratory diseases and genetics.
