Egg eater owners- have you tried this?

That's a lot of feed. Do you feed a lot of birds?
I only have 40 hens, and I have so much feed for 2 reasons.
First, we live quite far from the nearest feed store, so I like to stock up.
Second of all, I was expecting to have more chickens, but my chicken door fell open and I lost about 20.

I only ask because feed can get old and vitamins aren't as effective so sometimes you can end up with problems. Plus here in summer feeds can mold in the bags sitting in the shed waiting to be used. Just something to be aware of. If bags start not smelling so fresh when you open them it may be time for new feeds. It's probably okay sitting for a month or two depending on the mill date. I like stocking up too. Maybe where you are is cool enough so your feed stays fresher longer.

I like something with 18-22% protein depending on how much extras you feed to avoid deficiencies. I currently feed a all flock ration, but I have fed a grower starter to my bantam flock for many years. The calcium needs are met by a separate bowl of oyster shells, and of course some egg shells.
I've always been afraid to give my hen egg shells. Interesting

It's almost freezing at nights, and my white shed is always in the shade. I will for sure take care to smell them! Thanks!

Most of my chickens lay in the boxes, 4 or so choose the floor. :idunno Maybe having fake eggs in the boxes all the time will help.
