Oh man! I wish I had the space to do this. I am thinking about putting different colored bands on everyone and buying a camera to figure out who is doing this.
And then yes, she will be soup.

I read in another thread how someone covered the nest boxes in black fabric, the chickens couldn't see to peck the eggs and no more problems

The gap in the center is about 3” wide.
Don’t use fabric that will unravel.

Ok I have been here this is my answer:

Inexpensive paint tray roll away nesting boxes and they keep the eggs cleaner also.
And the villian was caught with yellow egg yolk all over her white chest. Chicken and dumplings was her answer.

My nest boxes are built onto the outside of the coop. I think I can modify your idea to work for me. Thank you!

There are plans somewhere to do them outside on youtube. My coop has outside boxes they work great!
