Egg Eater?

Are you seeing remains of the egg in the bedding? Like yolk left in the straw? If not, it may not be hens.

I've read one good piece of advice for breaking egg eaters' nasty habits. Put a dark cloth over the front of the nest box so that they can't see inside. If they can't see the eggs, they will not be likely to eat them. I've heard that people swear by it.

The dark cloth sound like a fantastic idea!

I guess the only downside to that idea would be if the hen opted to use the cloth for a cape and try to fly off the coop. Chickens+flying=never ends well. LOL

In the last few days I think this has become a problem for me too. I have 19 hens that should/could be laying and was getting between 10 - 15 eggs per day. I also had a broody sitting on 8 eggs.

Now there are only 2 eggs under the broody and am lucky to get 3-5 eggs per day.

I need to figure out who is doing the main eating a "resolve" the issue.

I am sure now it's going on. I caught them today. I am pretty sure it's a protein issue. I recently switched feed, and I think it's the culprit. It happened in three different pens today, all same feed.
