I have a suspected egg eater. Yesterday was the first day she did it I think. This hen has always been a bit weird. She spends all day doing repetitive behaviors like running in and out of the coop. When another hen is sitting on the nest box she hovers. Yesterday she was sitting on a hen while she was trying to lay. Eventually the hen laid her egg later in the day and it was the last egg to be collected. When I went to get it I only found a partial shell.
The suspected hen is a daily layer and a beautiful hen. I would be sad if I had to cull her from my small flock. My chickens (6) have never been free ranged, but have a 20x20 pen and I feed them like queens. Fresh kale from my garden, and it just goes on and on. They have plenty of fresh water. I have read all the things that could make an egg eater and my hens just don't fit.
