Egg Eating Chicken

Update!


We've been crating her during the day.
Every day she eats her egg in the crate. Unfortunately, no new eggs are appearing from other hens in nest boxes either.
Decided to try a mustard egg.
Son took the time to make one up and put it in her crate.

THE DAMN BIRD IMMEDIATELY ATE THE MUSTARD EGG.

EVERY.LAST.BIT. even through her watering eyes.

Yep, she's well seasoned with the mustard .....which rarely works, BTW.

Why your other birds are not laying... it's molting time...or they're laying elsewhere due to this 'eater' .

Very interesting theory about too much light. I'm having some egg eating recently and not sure why. They are getting all flock crumbles, oyster shell, grass and tons of veggies and fruits daily. But some times I keep the windows to the coop open and sometimes not so maybe if I keep them closed they will like it darker. I had an "idea" who it is but I don't cull so going to try some fake eggs and doors clothed and see if that helps.

With my egg water locked up, managed to get two eggs today (from the two known laying hens, I think my other ladies are just too old.)
So, I'd say that's progress.
Tomorrow is Butcherectomy Day.

Should I limit the greens? They don't get to free range so I figured this was a good supplement. Maybe not?

I learned the less "treats" the better. My girls are confined & I feel guilty but it's for their safety (neighbor's got too many dogs even in my yard is fenced). I was feeding healthy treats (veggies & fruits), they weren't gaining weight as I thought they should have been. Asked about it here, told about treats & I stopped treating....They got their FF & at close up I tossed in some BOSS & MW (1/8c each), I have only 4BOs. They gained weight and all's well. When I mow the lawn, I toss in some clippings.

My egg eater turned into many egg eaters. So now we have rollaway nesting boxes. The only thing that was left to do.
