I have 15 hens and 6 nest boxes. Of course they only lay in two of them. And within th past week there has been two incidents of broken egg that I caught a hen eating. Is it possible that the hens could be stepping on them and they break?? We just recieved 10 hens (mostly RIR) and my fiance built all new beautiful nest boxes for them. I dont know these new girls well and I know its one of the huge RIRs that has eaten the eggs. Can't be too sure if it was the same hen every time, they all look alike! I know the previous owner and she never had this problem.

Also could it be that my nest boxes are too small and that is why they are breaking? We built them based on our original girls, but the new hens seem so much bigger. Wish I had a measurement to give but I'm at work... Shhhhh! The boxes are filled with straw although they push it all to the side and lay on the wood. I've found nests with up to 4 unharmed eggs though..... stumped.
