I have a broody Wyandotte on 6 eggs she ate 5 & now I have 1 left what are the chances of a hatch?
also do you think the bird will be a egg eater when it goes back in the main coop?
cheers fil

What's the time frame?
How log has she been setting before she stared eating eggs?
Did you give her fertile egg all at the same time or....???
She may 'grow out of it' or not.
I'd break her broody now tho.

I just had 3 first year broody. 2 hatched eggs together one was barely broody and I gave her 6 chicks. I don't think inexperience is the issue here. She is not mom material.
What breed is she, maybe this would help others get an idea of she could grow out of it.

She would be and inexperienced mother and probably wouldn't be able to brood a chick if she is eating eggs and probably doesn't understand the process of hatching chicks. It will probably be better if she doesn't hatch it and if you want to prevent egg eating I would recommend keeping up on taking eggs out of the coop often or buying ceramic eggs.

I wonder if the eggs were developing?
Maybe she knew hey were 'bad'?
Hard to say if eggs were bad or broody was bad.

Oh, could the eggs have broken? IF an egg breaks in the nest she will clean it up. I see this with thin shells, they break while turning them.
With only 1 egg, I too would break her broody. 1 chick by its self does not stand a chance of survival. It may be fine until moma says go fend for yourself , and stops caring for it.
To find if a hen is eating eggs, I place them in a bachelor/brooding pad, give them a good egg and watch. IF they break the egg and eat it, well,, I eat them! I have not had to off the head of a hen yet! All of mine were thin shells.
